We prepared an extensive powerpoint presentation. To receive it please mail Dr Michel Loots at mloots@tridealhouse.com. Thanking you.
1. The current world population will grow from 7.7 billion in 2017, 9.8 Billion in 2050 to 11.2 billion in 2100. The number of persons living in slums, with 3.15 persons per household, is around 890 million in 2017, rising to 1200 million in 2050. Therefore, a sustainable, solution must be developed to provide adequate shelter to ~300 million slum families. The solution is creating houses that finance themselves by own food production: the Tridealhouse.
2. Tridealhouse is a unique modular pre-cast concrete house that produces food, generate revenues, and can be financed and owned by the slum inhabitants. The Tridealhouse innovative solution addresses all five challenges of the housing in slums defined by UN-Habitat: 1) access to improved drinking water source; 2) access to improved sanitation facilities; 3) durability of housing; 4) sufficient living area, and 5) secure tenure.
3. In addition to meeting these five needs, it also generates revenues, food, water and cooking energy. It transforms the house into an urban food production unit and a poverty reduction asset. The triangular house provides urban farming on the slopes. Houses will have the equivalent of 18 m3 water storage capacity, and ~50 to 90m2 of hydroponic agricultural area. A cluster of Tridealhouses can create meaningful neighbourhoods with economic and community empowerment synergies.
4. Tridealhouse aims to cost around ~9000 US$ PPP for the model of ~36 m2 living space. Each Tridealhouse will generate between 600 and 1100 US$ PPP extra annual incomes, and ~1/3 food for own consumption. They can be financed by a loan on 10 years at 5% interest by any slum family. Therefore, Tridealhouses finance themselves and have a good competitive and long-lasting market potential. The price for a Tridealhouse can be repaid even by the poorest if adapted financing, support and monitoring mechanisms are put in place.
5. Tridealhouse integrates best technologies and technical solutions available globally. These include specific concrete, engineering and pre-casting technologies, low-cost sealers and coatings, nano-reflective materials for low cost solar reflectors, hydroponics solutions, water purification technologies, sewage recycling, financing concepts using blockchain etc. On-site assembly time of pre-fabricated modules is a few hours. The house durability is designed for 80 years. Tridealhouse will anticipate and mitigate regional weather conditions.
6. Tridealhouses can be built and financed in unlimited numbers because the project is conceived as a business, a network of concrete precast factories that are self-sustainable profitable ventures. Even if the major objective is social, humanitarian and SDG related Tridealhouse will be profitable, offering around 3 to 5% net profit margin on its turnover. All precast factories will be partially co-owned by the Tridealhouse consortium company in which we invite investors, international institutions, governments, foundations and related funds to invest and become co-creators and co-owners.
7. Tridealhouse will cooperate with UN and local governments to deliver affordable housing inclusive of health, education, sanitation, informal and formal work. One current pilot country is Ethiopia in cooperation with the Ministry of Science and Technology and the Addis Ababa Technical University with whom formal cooperation is in place and activities ongoing.
8. Tridealhouse is developed by a team with 50 years UN, and extensive development and construction technology experience. We work with 5 major research centers and universities in Europe and Ethiopia and this list is expanding.
9. Tridealhouse will improve standards of living and create economic opportunity to the unreached communities of 890 million slum inhabitants. Tridealhouse combines a social and sound financial investment approach and wishes to cooperate with governments, academia, funders, impact investors and local stakeholders. We welcome an opportunity to start a dialogue and explore this potential..
Thank you!
